Frequently Asked Questions

Which POD platform pays the most?
It depends entirely on the product and your markup strategy. Redbubble lets you set any markup percentage directly, while Merch by Amazon fixes royalties by product tier — typically $1–$9 depending on product type and price. Society6 pays a flat 10% on most items. Use the calculator above to compare exact earnings side by side for your specific product.
What is a base price on Redbubble?
Redbubble sets a base price per product that covers manufacturing, fulfillment, and their platform fee. You then add a markup percentage on top of that base. Your royalty is exactly that markup amount — so on a $20 base tee with a 30% markup, your cut is $6 and the buyer pays $26.
Does Society6 take a percentage of my earnings?
Yes. Society6 pays artists a fixed 10% royalty on most products by default. On some items like Art Prints you can set a custom markup. This means on a $30 product, you would earn $3. The calculator shows your exact payout based on current base prices for each product.
How does Merch by Amazon calculate royalties?
Amazon MBA uses a tiered royalty table that varies by product type and the retail price you set. Higher-priced listings generally yield a higher royalty, but the relationship is not purely linear. For example, a Standard T-Shirt at $19.99 typically pays around $3.77. The calculator applies Amazon's published royalty tiers automatically.
Is this calculator free?
Yes — 100% free, no account required. CreatorMargin is a reference tool for independent artists. All calculations happen in your browser; no data is stored or sent anywhere.
How often are base prices updated?
We update base prices when platforms announce changes. However, POD platforms adjust pricing periodically without notice, so always verify your final royalty on the platform itself before setting a price. The figures here are for reference and planning only.
